On the occasion of its 100-year anniversary and to pay tribute to its deep, long-standing connection to China, Loro Piana presents its first-ever exhibition at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai, which, for the first time ever, hosts a luxury House. Called If You Know, You Know. Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence, the exhibition pays homage to the Maison’s history and heritage, its savoir-faire from heirloom raw materials to finished garments, and its unique six-generation family legacy. 

Curated by Judith Clark, an exhibition maker who, like Loro Piana, favours a hands-on approach, If You Know, You Know. Loro Piana’s Quest for Excellence offers a meaningful, memorable, and emotional connection between the Maison and the visitor that evolves in a constant dialogue between yesterday and today, between the rigorous pursuit of the highest quality countered by the impalpable softness of the fabrics. 

China is deeply interlaced with Loro Piana's history and growth; in many ways, it is where its journey of excellence, pinnacled by Cashmere, began. With the intention of giving back, the exhibition underscores the importance of this mutual esteem. 

Honoured to be the first luxury House to be showcased in the state-of-the-art galleries of MAP, renowned for its extraordinary program of cultural exchange, Loro Piana sought to tell its story in a new way, using current museology and exhibition-making practices to harness both documentary and sensory modes of display. Located in a key location overlooking the river, MAP was designed by Ateliers Jean Nouvel (AJN), the acclaimed Paris- based firm. 

This immersive journey is conceptualised through landscapes with a sensory and tactile lens, combining a captivating mix of archival documents, materials, artworks, including ones from the Sergio and Luisa Loro Piana Collection and the Pinacoteca di Varallo, heirloom fabrics, fibres, and 33 specially created dramatic silhouettes that enhance the bond between source and object, between the territory and the fibre while elevating Loro Piana’s savoir-faire to a whole new level of experimental and artistic prowess.
