Edited by The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in collaboration with the Museum of Art Pudong, produced by the Shanghai Book and Painting Press, The Shape of Time: Art and Ancestors of Oceania from The Metropolitan Museum of Art is the accompanying catalog for the eponymous exhibition held at the Museum of Art Pudong. More than 110 pieces/groups of precious works of art are exhibited in the exhibition, which are divided into three main sections: Voyaging, Ancestors and Time. The catalog includes three articles written by Dr. Maia Nuku, Evelyn A. J. Hall and John A. Friede Curator for Oceanic Art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. A series of artworks presented in this book highlight the long and deep connections between Austronesian-speaking peoples across Oceania, from the islands of Southeast Asia to Australia, Papua New Guinea, and the islands of the northern, central and eastern Pacific. These works demonstrate how artists have used natural light and texture to conjure and manifest ancestral influences.
